20 Cool-girl ideas for your next Outdoor Photoshoot!
Inject some fun, colour and personality to your next outdoor Family, Maternity or Newborn Session by incorporating a few things that are special to your family (or, ya know are just plain cool!).
1) Musical Instruments - if someone can jam along with a drum, guitar, ukulele then bring them along for some dance offs
2) A Family Quilt or special blanket - don't worry, I'll always bring along one of my throws to your session too!
3) Some flowers - a bunch of daffodils, peonies, some gypsophila etc can add some beautiful colour to your session, and are so cute with a little one, or a lovely belly shot for a maternity session. I would recommend just going with a very simple bouquet of 1-2 flower types
4) Accessorise! Bring along some cool sunnies, hats, beanies and we can whip them on for a few cool extra cool shots!
5) Kites - a little out there, but would look so cool for a pop of colour on a bit of windier day in a park type shoot like One Tree Hill/Cornwall Park
6) Favourite Books - or books that fit the theme of the session, for example 'We're going on a bear hunt' for a field shoot, or a Summery Saturday Morning for a beach shoot. Books always make a natural 'snuggled up on a blanket' vibe and can help tell a story in your session too
7) Bubbles - always a crowd favourite for the little ones, and magic with some bright sun or glowy light
8) Balls, cricket sets, frisbee etc - finish up your photo shoot with a game on the beach or field, even just a game of tag can look awesome in photos. You could even bring a fishing line if it fits the location!
9) Wheels! - Scooters, skateboards, bikes, roller-skates even a wagon for a bit of a hoon as we wind down the session. Somewhere like St Heliers would be perfect for this!
10) 'Cool' foods - (who knew that was a thing), but some foods can add a cool vibe to the session - think a little bit of a kiwiana vibe too - big ice creams, longest drink in town milkshakes, a pizza in the box, fish and chips on the beach, big lollipops, ice blocks, watermelon, strawberries, glass bottle sodas
11) Toys - Either the VIP toy of your kids that has been hugged to death, or something that is a little more on the neutral/vintage side of things always photographs well
12) Your Vehicle - classic cars, vintage cars, cool old trucks, caravans, motorbikes...bring em!
13) Pinwheels (you know, the colourful things that you hold that spin in the wind). Colour, fun and perfect for the littlies!
14) Something Matching - definitely not saying we need everyone to match for the whole session, but it can be supercool to have something like denim jackets, overalls, leather jackets, gumboots even! for a few fun shots during your session
15) Handmade Paper Airplanes - have a fly off with some simple white paper airplanes that will pop beautifully on a blue sky day - you could even make giant ones!
16) Colourful picnic umbrella or some colourful old school deck chairs - bring a 70s vibe to your beach session
17) Your togs, wetsuits and surf or Body Boards for your beach session
18) Costumes - especially if your smaller kids have been dying to dress up as a unicorn/spiderman, we can use it as an incentive for them to do as a treat at the end of the session!
19) A poloroid camera - capture your memories while I capture you capturing them. Confused yet? Me too, but it will work out I promise.
20) Art Supplies - if you have someone in the family that is a budding artist, get them to bring along their sketchbook, or even just some chalk for some art on the footpaths. If you forget, a stick in the sand will do the trick too!
